Located in the heart of the Golden Horseshoe, Garner Square is a proposed ecumenical ministry campus covering 22 acres of prime development land in Hamilton, Ontario. The land is owned by the congregation of Ancaster Christian Reformed Church, and is intended to become a centre of Christian innovation and collaboration. With preliminary planning completed, the organizing committee is soliciting expressions of interest from organizations willing to locate or invest in this unique development.
VISION A vibrant trans-denominational ministry campus that fosters John 17:20-23 unity and advances the ministries of the participating organizations.
To create a collaborative environment that stimulates innovation among its participating organizations to steward efficiencies which strengthen their capacities to serve their specific purposes.
An Ecumenical Ministry Centre
The idea of a trans-denominational ministry campus is rooted in the desire for true unity within Christ’s church. The concept of Garner Square would see multiple agencies and organizations from a variety of Christian denominations housed on a beautiful, village-like development. While each organization would own or lease their own space, the hundreds of staff, volunteers, and visitors would be surrounded by believers like themselves; actively employed in the furthering of God’s Kingdom here on earth. Through interactions on the campus paths, recreation areas and shared facilities, relationships will develop.
With its many amenities and facilities, Garner Square will serve as an integral part of the Ancaster community, providing access to sports fields and public areas. The development of Garner Square will offer Christian organizations of all sizes and types an enriching environment that enables them to collaborate constructively, share resources, and grow together in the unity that Jesus prayed for in his church.
The development of Garner Square will offer Christian organizations of all sizes and types an enriching environment that enables them to collaborate constructively, share resources, and grow together in the unity that Jesus prayed for in his church.
Designed as a village around two common quadrangles, Garner Square will be made up of office buildings, a conference centre, a new church auditorium, a three-storey hotel, a daycare, a recreation centre, and athletic facilities. Connecting each building will be walking paths with benches and lush greenery. Community and collaboration are the primary goals of this design concept.
Size and Scale
The completed project is estimated to exceed 370,000 sq. ft. in useable floorspace.
Respecting the Area
All buildings will respect Ancaster’s long-established 3-storey building height limit.
Large scale facilities and resources will be made available for many smaller organizations.
A suburb of Hamilton, Ancaster is located only 75 km (46 miles) from Toronto, and 90 km (56 miles) from the US border. Garner Square is situated adjacent to the Hamilton International Airport, and offers easy access to multiple major highways. Consistently ranked as one of Canada’s best places to invest, the Hamilton area is currently undergoing a significant revitalization. Recently rezoned as part of Hamilton’s Airport Employment Growth District, Garner Square is deemed priority employment land, and is eligible for multiple development incentives.
